MerQube adds to Advisory Board

Index provider MerQube has appointed two new Advisory Board Members – James Socas, MD of Blackstone’s software investment team and Amit Prakash, CTO at ThoughtSpot and a former leading engineer at Google. 

They will provide guidance to the management team which includes Vinit Srivastava, CEO, and Keith Loggie, COO, both from S&P Dow Jones Indices, as well as Praveen Yalagandula, CTO.

Prakash, CTO at ThoughtSpot, says: “I am convinced that clients in the index space can significantly benefit from an advanced technology platform. The number of indices calculated has been continuously growing while indices are becoming increasingly complex, and only an innovative player can answer the existing market needs in a timely fashion.”

James Socas, MD at Blackstone, adds: “MerQube was built two years ago by a team of index industry veterans and technology experts. They already cover multi-asset, complex indices and have secured several deals with major players in both the financial and insurance industries. I am proud to join this fintech given how much they have accomplished in so little time and the exciting projects they have in the pipeline.”

MerQube is a US-based index provider that was launched in 2019 to bring advanced technology and an innovative mindset to a fast-growing space. MerQube covers multi-asset, equities, futures and options, offering design and calculation services for a wide range of complex indices, including thematic, ESG, factor and retirement.

Prakash is a co-founder and CTO of ThoughtSpot, one of the leading companies in the Analytics software space. Prior to that, Prakash led several engineering teams at Google which designed some of the largest machine learning infrastructures in the world and built models that were critical to Google's revenue growth. Earlier in his career, Prakash was one of the founding engineers in the Bing team at Microsoft, where he implemented the infrastructure for web-scale graph algorithms, as well as led part of the ranking team for search from scratch. Prakash received his PhD in Computer Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin and a Bachelor of Technology in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur. Prakash is also one of the authors of the popular algorithms book series "Elements of Programming Interviews".

Socas is a Managing Director at Blackstone focused on software investments. He has been involved with the firm’s investments in VectraAI, Wiz, FireEye, Snowflake, Diligent, Episerver, and Titus and has been a growth investor for almost two decades. He earlier worked as Managing Director at Credit Suisse (First Boston), providing mergers & acquisitions and capital raising advice to companies in the global software industry and joined the senior management team of one of his investment banking clients, Symantec, as Head of Corporate Development, leading its strategic acquisitions, alliances and corporate venture investing. Socas is an honours graduate of the University of Virginia and a graduate of Harvard Business School.
