William Smales, Global Head of Private Markets, Morrison & Co, says: “We are delighted to welcome Gary to our team, at a pivotal time for our expanding business development activities.
“As a highly respected telecom and data sector veteran, Gary will bring valuable insights as we accelerate our digital infrastructure investment growth strategy for North America. Gary’s deep knowledge of the telecom and data sectors, and his commitment to embedding sustainability into our investment processes, align perfectly with our priorities.”
For over 25 years, Sugarman has invested in and operated telecom and data companies. He was also the Managing Member of Richfield Capital Partners, a fund he formed in 2010, to deliver working capital investments to the technology sector.
Sugarman says: “I am excited to collaborate with Morrison & Co, as it looks to actively grow its US digital infrastructure portfolio. I love these sectors, and I believe investors will find Morrison & Co’s proven track record, together with its entrepreneurial culture and commitment to sustainability, to be highly attractive.”
Morrison & Co has deep investment and operating experience in digital infrastructure, holding investments in Vodafone New Zealand and CDC Data Centres, on behalf of investors. It has an established track record of successful early digital infrastructure investment across integrated mobile carriers, data centers, enterprise fiber and registries businesses throughout Europe and Australasia.
The firm is actively growing its US investment portfolio by leveraging its key investment themes of decarbonisation, data and connectivity, and social infrastructure. Within the US, it currently manages investments in renewable energy firm, Longroad Energy, and Clearvision Ventures, an infra-tech fund.
Sugarman will advise Morrison & Co’s US team on investment opportunities within the data center, fiber and connectivity sectors. He will also provide mentorship and strategic counsel to senior executives of the firm’s portfolio companies.
