William Blair adds China A-Shares Growth Fund to SICAV range
William Blair Investment Management has launched a China A-Shares Growth SICAV Fund to provide investors with exposure to the substantial and growing opportunities available in the world’s second largest economy.
Employing an actively managed approach, the new fund will utilise a fundamental research based investment process, aided by systematic analysis, to identify and invest in companies characterised by sustainable value creation; peer group leadership; above average returns on equity; and strong balance sheets and consistent, above average earnings growth.
The fund will be managed by Vivian Lin Thurston, CFA, and Casey Preyss, CFA, supported by the wider William Blair Global Equities team.
“Despite the large size and scale of the economy, the China A-Shares market remains a largely under-owned asset class, which is significantly underrepresented in mainstream global equity indices,” says Vivian Lin Thurston, CFA, partner and portfolio manager at William Blair Investment Management. “With a continued urbanisation, rising income and a large number of millennials driving significant middle-class consumption, we see sizeable opportunities in the China A-Shares market for investors to benefit from the increasingly domestic consumption driven China economy.”
“William Blair was one of the first foreign institutional investors in the China A-Shares market. As we approach our three-year anniversary of managing a China A-Shares specific strategy, we are excited to now offer clients the China A-Shares Growth SICAV,” says Stephanie Braming, CFA, partner and global head of William Blair Investment Management. “William Blair has deep expertise in emerging markets investing across equities, debt, and currencies and has generated strong outcomes for our clients over time. The China A-Shares fund represents a natural extension to our existing offerings managed by our long-tenured, experienced investment teams.”
The China A-Shares Growth SICAV is the twelfth William Blair strategy to be launched for European investors. As of 30 September 2020, the company manages within its SICAV USD3.6 billion of assets across Emerging Markets Growth, Emerging Markets Leaders, Emerging Markets Small Cap Growth, Emerging Markets Debt Hard Currency, Emerging Markets Debt Local Currency, Dynamic Diversified Allocation, Global Leaders Sustainability, Global Leaders, US Small-Mid Cap Growth, US Small-Mid Cap Core, and US All Cap Growth SICAV vehicles.
