Janus Henderson Investors launches Asset-Backed Securities Fund

Janus Henderson Investors has launched an Asset-Backed Securities (ABS) Fund for institutional investors.

The launch represents an important product extension for the firm that will  allow us to better meet the needs of clients, by further leveraging the expertise of our investment professionals.

The fund, named Janus Henderson Asset-Backed Securities Fund, will aim to deliver strong risk adjusted returns for investors through a broad range of asset backed securities, identifying opportunities that offer secure income and downside resilience over market cycles.
Available in a UCITS structure, the fund will primarily be sold in the UK and is being launched at this time to meet institutional client demand for positive returns over long-term time horizons.
The fund strategy will be managed by Colin Fleury, Head of Secured Credit, alongside portfolio managers Ian Bettney and Dennis Struc, supported by a global team of specialists with broad expertise in investing, originating, rating and structuring debt across multiple sectors and the entire ratings spectrum.
In constructing the portfolio, the managers aim to identify opportunities to deliver secure income and downside resilience. The fund will consider through-cycle returns and volatility to take advantage of the broad range of risk and return profiles available in ABS markets to adjust the portfolio according to the macro and market environment being faced. The fund will invest for the long-term, but holdings will be actively monitored for early signs of potential adverse performance trends.
Colin Fleury, Head of Structured Credit, says: “The launch of this dedicated pooled ABS fund allows us to meet growing demand from UK DB pension schemes for strategies that provide portfolio diversification and enhanced risk-adjusted returns. The management of ABS portfolios is a long-established core expertise within our Fixed Income team, many of whom have worked together for over 10 years. The team will draw upon their global securitisation expertise to identify opportunities offering secure income and downside resilience over market cycles.”
Ian Bettney, Portfolio Manager, says: “The necessity to build a transparent picture of risk and return for each ABS creates a high barrier for portfolio inclusion, which aligns with the conservative framework we will be using across this fund. In doing so, the investment team will consider a broad range of market insights and integrate ESG views that are bespoke to each securitisation position owned.”
