UMB Distribution Services (UMBDS) has been named distributor for Smead Value Fund, a registered mutual fund advised by Smead Capital Management.

In this role, UMBDS will provide broker-dealer compliance solutions including supervision of registered representatives, advertising review and approval, along with dealer agreement and distribution payments support.

In addition to broker-dealer compliance solutions, UMBDS partners with clients in order to best position their firms for growth. UMB’s Distribution Toolkit offers a full range of asset raising services including marketing and sales support, distribution strategy optimisation, platform intelligence, data analytics and database solutions.

Smead has been a valued client of UMB since 2015, when it named UMBFS as its private funds administrator. In 2018, Smead also elected to convert to UMBFS’ transfer agency for its ’40 Act mutual fund.

“We look for great partners and outstanding people at our organisation. In our relationship with UMB, we have found both,” says Cole Smead, CFA, President of Smead Capital Management. “Changing service providers for a mutual fund isn’t something you look forward to, but our transitions to UMB were made with ease because of the attention they provided.”

This announcement follows UMB’s recent appointment of James Curry as Key Account Manager. Curry, who joined UMB in April, has more than 20 years of industry experience and will work closely with Smead to evaluate and support platform distribution strategy.

“We are pleased to provide distribution services to Smead Capital Management and continue the growth of our valued partnership,” says Maureen Quill, executive vice president and executive director of registered funds at UMB Fund Services. “This successful relationship is the direct result of our team’s unparalleled client service and commitment to providing solutions for all of our clients’ needs.”

UMBDS supports distribution for mutual funds, exchange-traded funds, private funds, and unlisted closed-end interval and tender offer funds. UMBDS has offered core distribution services for 30 years, and over the past year has more than doubled its number of clients.

UMBFS is a division of UMB Financial Corporation, offering a complete line of products and services to the fund industry, including fund administration, fund accounting, tax, investor services and transfer agency, distribution and custody.
