Two new hires strengthen Morgan Stanley Investment Management’s ESG offering

Emily Chew and Navindu Katugampola have joined Morgan Stanley Investment Management. Chew has joined MSIM as global head of sustainability based in New York, while Katugampola has joined MSIM as head of sustainability for fixed income based in London.

Chew will lead the Morgan Stanley investment business’ sustainability strategy and governance efforts. She will lead a centralized team that will develop ESG investment integration standards, help to launch ESG thematic product, construct a branding and marketing strategy, advise sales professionals and clients on sustainability matters, and produce sustainability data, tools and research in support of Morgan Stanley’s investment teams.

She will partner with the ESG leads on investment platforms to continually enhance ESG integration practices and to deliver best-in-class sustainability products and solutions. She will also oversee stewardship and investee engagement agenda. 

Chew will be based in New York and report into Ted Eliopoulos and Rui de Figueiredo. She will co-report to Audrey Choi and work closely with the Firm’s Global Sustainable Finance team.
She joins Morgan Stanley with significant industry leadership and expertise. Most recently, Chew was the global head of ESG for Manulife Investment Management. She was also recently the chair of the steering committee for the Climate Action 100+ global investor engagement initiative and is a member of PRI’s Listed Equities Integration Subcommittee.

In addition, Katugampola recently joined MSIM as the global head of sustainability for fixed income. Katugampola has been at Morgan Stanley since 2004 and most recently was the head of green and sustainability bonds within Global Capital Markets. He was a pioneer in establishing the market for green, social and sustainability bonds and led USD80 billion of bonds. Katugampola will be a resource in Europe for all of Investment Management working with investors, clients and other stakeholders on issues of sustainability. Katugampola also works with Morgan Stanley EMEA Firm Management and Global Sustainable Finance contributing to cross-divisional sustainable finance initiatives.

Katugampola is based in London and will report to both Chew and Ric Ford in this new capacity.
