HSBC GAM appoints Global Head of Strategy and UK & International CEO

HSBC Global Asset Management has appointed Stuart White as Global Head of Strategy and UK & International CEO.

White has been Head of Strategy at HSBC Global Asset Management since September 2015, accountable for strategy, planning and chief of staff activities. In his newly expanded role, he will also lead the delivery of the firm’s strategic programme, future strategy, M&A and corporate management activities, supported by a central team.

As part of his new role, White will be responsible for HSBC Global Asset Management’s entities in the UK, Bermuda, Malta, Turkey, and have oversight responsibilities for asset management activities in Saudi Arabia and for Hang Seng Investment Management Limited in Hong Kong. The UK CEO appointment is subject to regulatory approval.

He will continue to report directly to Nicolas Moreau, Global CEO.

Andy Clark, who was previously UK CEO, has decided to leave the business to pursue other opportunities.

White has worked in the asset management industry for more than two decades. He first joined HSBC Global Asset Management in 2010 in the UK, before becoming the Head of its UK Institutional business. He previously held senior roles at Threadneedle Asset Management and Insight Investment. For the last six years, White has also been a Trustee Board Director and Investment Committee member of the HSBC Bank Pension Trust (UK) Ltd which is responsible for the HSBC UK Defined Benefit (£30bn) and Defined Contribution (£5bn) schemes.

Nicolas Moreau, Global CEO, says: “Stuart has been instrumental in driving the strategic direction for our business and I look forward to continue working with him to ensure that we meet our clients’ evolving investment needs and deliver the ambitious growth plans we have set out.

“I would like to thank Andy for his hard work and dedication over the last seven years, and wish him all the best in his future endeavours.”

Nicolas joined HSBC Global Asset Management in September last year and has since been working with its senior leadership team to shape a new and more focused strategy, positioning the business as a “core” solutions and “specialist” Emerging Markets, Asia & Alternatives focused asset manager, with client centricity, investment excellence and sustainable investing as key enablers.

White, Global Head of Strategy and UK & International CEO, says: “I feel privileged and proud to be taking on this expanded role and I very much look forward to helping Nicolas and the team to deliver on our strategy and to accelerate the growth of HSBC Global Asset Management.”
