New York Life appoints Katherine O’Brien to executive management committee

New York Life has appointed Katherine O’Brien, its chief human resources officer, to its executive management committee.

She reports to Ted Mathas, chairman and chief executive officer of New York Life.
 
The executive management committee is comprised of New York Life’s senior executive leadership and assists the CEO in setting policy for the company.
 
Mathas says: “We are proud to announce the appointment of Katherine O’Brien to the executive management committee. For nearly two decades Katherine has made significant contributions to New York Life through key roles in the office of the general counsel and the human resources department, including serving as chief corporate counsel and our first chief diversity officer. We are very pleased to have her experience and judgment on the committee.”
 
O’Brien joined New York Life in 1995 as a litigator, specialising in employment litigation and benefits compliance. She has held roles of increasing responsibility which included serving as the company’s first chief diversity officer in the human resources department from 2006 to 2008. In 2008, O’Brien was elected first vice president and deputy general counsel in the office of the general counsel. In 2010, she was elected senior vice president and chief corporate counsel, leading all corporate practice teams in the office of the general counsel, including the employment and ERISA units. She was named chief human resources officer in 2013.
