Tortoise Capital Advisors appoints closed-end fund independent board member
Rand Berney is to join Tortoise Capital Advisors’ closed-end fund board of directors on 1 January 2014.
He will join independent board members Conrad Ciccotello, Charles Heath and John Graham as well as board members H Kevin Birzer, chairman of Tortoise's closed-end funds and senior managing director of Tortoise, and Terry Matlack, chief executive officer of Tortoise's closed-end funds and managing director of Tortoise.
"Rand brings a tremendous amount of Fortune 500 energy industry, corporate and financial experience to the board," says Birzer. "This unique perspective will provide our stockholders with a complementary knowledge base and skill set in directing the funds. We are delighted to have him join the board."
Berney (pictured) held several leadership positions during his 35-year career in energy, serving 20 years in corporate officer positions with ConocoPhillips, one of the world's largest energy companies. During his tenure, he also was deeply involved with its corporate board, including during the merger of Conoco and Phillips Petroleum in 2002. His experience at ConocoPhillips included serving as senior vice president of corporate shared services, vice president and controller, and general auditor. He currently is an executive in residence and professor at Kansas State University's College of Business Administration.
