Throgmorton hires ex-Morgan Stanley European controller to expand outsourced CFO service

Throgmorton, one of the UK’s largest specialist accountancy and back office service providers, has hired Carolyn Twist, a former executive director and European controller at Morgan Stanley, to bolster the company’s outsourced COO/CFO service.

She will also assist Throgmorton in generating new business.

Twist’s appointment highlights the increasing institutionalisation of the alternative investment management space. The increase in spinouts from proprietary trading desks at investment banks into fund managers has driven a demand for a more comprehensive package from their third party service providers. They want the best possible back and middle office structures around them so they can concentrate on the business of managing money.

Twist has over 15 years experience working at Morgan Stanley where she held a number of control roles, developing robust reporting and control systems to support complex products across multiple jurisdictions. In 1995 she became European controller, managing 230 staff in eight countries.  Another of her roles was to oversee the relocation of Morgan Stanley’s finance and operations functions from London to Glasgow in 2000, delivering savings of 30 per cent.

Prior to joining Throgmorton, Twist worked for six years with a number of alternative investment management businesses as an independent COO/CFO consultant and fund director.

Andrew Rubio, chief executive at Throgmorton, says: “Carolyn has over 25 years of experience as a financial services professional specialising in corporate financial accounting, product control and regulation. We have brought Carolyn on board to apply her deep knowledge and practical experience to help deliver our tailored CFO advisory services to a larger institutional audience, with a specific focus on fund manager clients who are looking to set-up a presence in the UK.”

Twist says: “Throgmorton already has a successful track record in providing an outsourced CFO service, my role will be to facilitate and expand on this. I look forward to working closely with Throgmorton’s dedicated client teams in supplying an institutional quality back office to their clients.”
